With regards to the 5 year checks, once you have been actually issued a permenant airside ID you do not actually have to go through the whole 5 year check again, you just need the intermittent references inbetween when you left the airline to when youre coming back, and of course the Basic Disclosure.
I only found this out a few months ago, as like yourself have held 2 BAA Airsides previously, and was really pissed off at having to get all the references again.
As I collected my ID from LGW, I asked the BAA bloke why they didnt just store the 5 year history on the computer, and they do!
So if you have had a full airside before you do not need to go through that whole 5 year history rigmarole.
Nice of them to tell the airlines that, hey?!
