Exclamation BAA Security

I would like your views on BAA Security and the proceedures they have in place.

I Have been flying as crew for 2 and a half years, in that time I have worked for a small regional airline, a new charter airline and then moved on to an airline who have been around for a while and have not long started passenger service's.

When I moved over to the third airline I had already been issued with 2 previous BAA security passes for EDI. BAA proceedures state that we are unable to just transfer the passes over to the new airline, therefore we need to go through the whole process again of having to get five year work history as well as a new disclosure scotland certificate. I can understand having to go through this when I swapped over to the 2nd airline as when I started with the first, we only had to give 2 years work history.

By the time the Disclosure Scotland certificate came through, I had completed my 4 week training and had been waiting for a further 8 weeks before the 3rd airline could forward all the details to EDI BAA Security office. In total I did not fly for 12 weeks! The last three weeks I did not get paid for!

When the documents were handed in I received a call from my office(at the time I was in AMS on a stag wkend) and they told me that the application had been unsuccesfull and returned to the airline office, my employer then informed that as I could not get a security pass, my employnment would be terminated.

On getting home and calling BAA they told me items were missing but could not disclose what items they were, further to that when I spoke with my office they did not seem to want to help me!

I understand the need for the 5yr checkable history and the disclosure scotland to keep the people we dont want in - out, but the security staff are now mucking about with peoples lively hoods and without being big headed - good staff are losing thier jobs!

Having spoken to my referees who were covering my GAP's she told me that a lady from the security had called her to check the detail and started accusing her of lying on the form!! Apparently there had been a question that asked if the person getting the pass was residing in the uk, referee had ticked yes but waas giving a ref for when I worked abroad, daft mistake I aggree, however this could have been rectified if.. number 1 the security staff told me exactly what the problem was and number 2, my office were a bit more helpfull.

Now im taken a year off but really miss it so have started applying again (not to any european flights and defo not for EDI airport), the security staff need a bit more training there on how to deal with people and situations.

Your comments are welcome!
