As much as I hate to say it - generally politicians regardless of political persuasion don't give a monkey's.
Unless you get a good majority of the general public's support they won't do a whole lot to help (and only then because it could become a political issue and therefore of use to them).
Qantas is a public company and Government's try to stay out of their affairs unless a particular action (or potential action) contravenes legislation.
However, I do think its a worthwhile exercise to let your local member know what is happening.
