Sorry to disagree but Emirates do have a governing body and that's the DGCA and can not make the rules up as they go along.Emirates have also decided to operate under JAR OPS and are, therefore, legally obliged to follow the same Flight time limitations as every other operator under JAR.Many UK Airlines, especially the charters, often obtain dispensation from the CAA to stretch FTL's so even if it were true,it would not be unique to Emirates. For the bet, there are 4 pilots.2 captains/2 f/o's.There is a crew rest area under the main cabin at the rear. It's very comfy with individual a/c plus 500 channel IFE as in pax cabin. They even have pyjamas provided.Operating pair of pilots do first 3 hours ,say ,then 6 hours horizontal rest ,then up front for last 3 hours or so.2 New Yorks and 1 Osaka or Sydney Direct is usually the months work for A340-500 guys and around 16 +days off/month.....now who's laughing?
P.S EXTRA Cabin Crew are carried but nnot sure of numbers.
