- 60: Common shorthand used by crews.
- Mike Model: Refers specifically to the UH-60M variant.
- Romeo: Refers specifically to the MH-60R variant.
- Pave Hawk: Used for the USAF HH-60 special operations variant.
- Jayhawk: Used for the USCG HH-60 variant.
- Gunhawk: Refers to armed versions of the helicopter.
The helicopter is part of the Sikorsky S-70 family and is named after the Sauk Native American leader Black Hawk.
There are probably some other unflattering nicknames used when it doesn’t perform as expected or a vital part stops working in an inconvenient location.
