Recommending places to visit really depends on whether this is a flying vacation with your family, or just several friends. Once you start getting north of the Carolinas you run into some fairly dense traffic areas, Military operations areas, bases, etc.

Depending on what type of vacation, and when, there is the Sun and Fun EAA fly in held every spring in Florida, Key West, Orlando, Miami, Myrtle Beach, New Orleans, the options are limitless.

If your vacation is in July, there is the EAA Air Venture fly in held at Oshkosh Wisconsin. The most awesome gathering of aircraft in the world, on average there are over 12,000 - 14,000 aircraft of all types (GA, experimental, homebuilts, ulta lights, military, and some corporate) parked on the airport during the event. If you love aviation then this is the event to visit!
