Top advice, to which I would add aptitude testing. Too many schools are happy to take students’ cash, even when it’s obvious that they have little to no chance of making it to an airline seat. And schools that do offer aptitude testing have a very obvious interest in telling you it’s the perfect career choice.

They offer independent, unbiased assessments and are not trying to sell you anything. From direct experience, it’s a great confidence booster to know you’ve got a good chance of succeeding, and the cost is peanuts compared to how much you’ll be spending on commercial training. It’s money well spent.
