I don’t use BA on a regular basis as LH/SIN/EK user and I am surprised at such short notice from BA as obviously not a Tech issue this far out I would have thought.
Does this happen often now I know it did historically from my own experiences but that is 20 years ago ?

The CAA used to be hot on this sort of thing, and pursue scheduled carriers who didn't carry out what they scheduled due to "having insufficient resources", which covered everything needed. This was carried out to the extent of carriers subchartering in expensive and oversized substitutes just to cover any shortage of aircraft, crews, or whatever. Somehow this approach seems to have been lost. I wonder why.
