From: Wandering the FIR and cyberspace often at highly unsociable times
My son sometimes trades at outdoor events, often in fairly remote locations. It’s by no means unusual for him to find a problem obtaining a reliable internet or phone connection, which means cash only on the day, which has often lost him some sales.

At a recent event he was approached by a chap (an ex BT engineer) who has just set up a business offering a Wi-Fi link for the event, using Starlink. I think it cost £20 for the day, which my son thought was well worthwhile. The engineer had set up a series of two pronged antennas on twenty foot high poles, each with a control box/ receiver, surrounding the event. All that was needed was to find the network and use the given passsword. He later told my son that he intends to expand his business by selling directly to event organisers, so that they can include the cost in the price of a ticket to traders.

We think it’s a brilliant idea.
