What about Final Command Checks? The Command candidate (an F/O) is in the LHS, a line F/O in the RHS and the ‘Checker’ (who is a CPT and the PIC) sits in the jumpseat.
At the outfit where I worked, there were two command checks; Initial and Final. The Initial Command Check was conducted with the candidate in the LHS and the Check Captain in the RHS. If successful, the candidate was then legally qualified to be a commander, but had not yet operated with a line FO in the RHS. Further training was then conducted with line FOs in the RHS and a Training Captain in the jump seat, followed by the Final Command Check.
