I am publishing this because of some of the responses to my original comment: "Everything you described after that is UNSAFE and ILLEGAL."
One part you miss from your original comment is that using user defined waypoints for navigation below LSALT is illegal, among other things. So plotting GPS waypoints in valleys to avoid terrain in IMC below MSA/LSALT is not allowed, for obvious reasons, that simple errors will put you in hills.
