Seems nothing has changed since I left in '90. I recall our MQ at Middle Wallop on my pilot course had lino floor tiles nailed down with the heads protruding by around half an inch. The kids bedroom window had a sheet of plywood nailed to the frame as a replacement glass pane. Our sons were 2 years old and 3 months old respectively; the Missus and I had to be on watch all the time in case they went near the nails.
That was prior to outsourcing and the resultant profiteering. I feel truly sorry for todays' MQ occupants.
