The basic class 2 is fit for some and not for all. If you’re a fit and healthy PPL, then it’s great as the unconditional aspect of it is a no-brainer for many.
If you have the odd health issue, then a class 2 is likely better for you and worse case the lesser medical with the conditions attached.
I can understand a doctor not wanting to do it, as I doubt my GP would be aware that at the end, their name is stamped on the bottom of my aviation medical! I go into mine under the concept of need to know and they don’t need to know about that part.
