Class 2 Aviation Medicals and hearing tests in OZ
Hi guys,
Went to get my medical today at a GP in Melbourne (Class 2 Basic) and was surprised that the GP wanted to conduct an audiometry test which he did. I am only looking to get back into flying as a PPL.
The GP also did not realise that it's the average (as I understand it) of the 0.3, 1, 2, & 3 Khz > 40 dB not the individual results that are required to be below 40dB in order to meet the Commercial Vehicle Class 2 Basic Standard for the better ear as well.
Slugged me $180.00 for the test! which I thought originally was going to be $130.00.
Have never had to do an audiometry test for an aviation medical before as a Private Pilot for a Class 2 medical - is this something new that has come in?
My last medical was in 2018 and was done by a DAME without an audiometry test as a full Class 2.
Worried now that every 2 years (I am over 40) that I will need to do an full audiometry test for my Class 2 Basic Medical.
Clear skies.
