the fact the Jabiru into BNA wasn’t making radio calls.
But the Jab was not going to BNA. He was going to EVD. He did not mention BNA in his broadcast. He broadcast to
LIS traffic that he was 4 to the east at 5300ft and descending. What does that actually tell anyone? Natural assumption is that he is inbound to LIS (and
away from BNA)?
If the CAGRO at BNA heard that, he probably switched off after that, as BNA is his trigger, and he is paid by BNA Council to look after traffic at BNA. He probably hears LIS broadcasts all day and ignores them. The Jab has a transponder, but not broadcasting altitude as it was capable of, so even when other systems "detect" him, they don't know how high he is. He's just a another dot on the screen. You have a jet broadcasting positions reference to imaginary points in the sky that mean nothing to anyone else that such broadcasts are meant to assist. In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone said, as all parties (especially the Jab pilot) claim to have not heard anything. Clusterf*ck all round.
