I trained as a self improver (CAP54: 700 hour route) at Oxford, OATS as was for my IR (see note 1) as I had learnt to fly at Carlisle, their Northern Base until 1981. They were good. Quality. Then over time, the external beancounters became in charge with various takeovers, who had only profit in mind.
FTE is worth a closer look if you are caught in the system and feel your best option is to continue; the “offspring” of BAe flying college, Prestwick where I was a QFI. Three of the original FIs are on the staff.
note 1: CPL flying test (GFT 1:2:3) required no formal training. Simply book a test.
I was exempt from GFT 2 & 3. (IR +FI) Only required GFT 1 ~ wonderful experience with ‘H squared’ at Perth.
