In Europe you are forced to do type ratings on Mitsubishi MU-2, Dornier 228 and DHC-6 and other complex aircraft MTOW <12,500 lbs As apposed to a sit down with the POH. I think the FAA SFAR on the MU-2 was an interesting comparison between the two training regimes.
