I get puzzled everytime I hear companies or people are leaving HKG for Singapore due to perceived loss of freedoms. Singapore being seen as a bastion of freedom has to be some kind of joke. Keep in mind they got capital/corporal punishment as well, whereas we don’t.
It’s not about freedoms. It’s about a commitment to capitalism. If the perception is that capital in HK can be seized by the Mainland, then it is all over. There’s a reason Mainlanders want their money in assets outside China... because they know this devil all too well. The ChiComs are more nefarious than the Soviets ever were.
