Conjecture: if the pilot was still in the cockpit when the fire/rescue folks arrived, it would not be unusual for them to cut away the body of the helicopter to access, stabilize and extricate the pilot. I used to do this work myself, once upon a time. It tends to make the damage appear dramatically worse on any vehicle, cars, airplanes or helicopters.
I considered that option, hence my use of
"if that's from the crash". Hopefully you're correct though
