The raised platform is quite a safety improvement: pax are kept clear of the tail rotor (which is out over the safety net), they can't go wandering off into danger should they become confused around the machine, and the rotors are well clear of any passing people and/or vehicles.
Obviously not a space saver but if you have the room and the requirement (high pax movements) it's certainly an option for improved safety
