By no means the first car v aeroplane contest.S Met O Scampton in his very variant and modified Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HSR versus a Vulcan. About 1982 I think.
At the time I was his boss at Bawtry. He was reticent about who won so I gather he lost.
When he drove me to the pub for lunch he frightened the sh1t out of me. The car had amazing acceleration. We became airborne over a hump back bridge. Driver told me "very important to keep wheel steady so it lands in a straight line" Yes but..
