Seriously speaking, no one knows the truth, i.e. real conditions. Some other sources reported shortly after the incident that the Pak. pilots were "shooting" from 60-70 km, so they were within the (max theoretical) range of the Indian missiles. But the question is whether the Indian pilots performed really well. I doubt it. If they were indeed maneuvering to evade the AIMs, it is quite possible that their brains were not cool after that.
