LTN Man, probably because the 757 is an overpowered aircraft and the 737-800 is probably a tad underpowered. I remember that when BY used their -800s from LBA (which has a longer runway than BPL but probably the same LDA due displaced thresholds enforced during the extension) they had problems in certain weather conditions on the longer routes. As RYR dont do any particularly long routes ex BPL they should be ok with the current runway. If they wish to do longer routes in the future however an extra 1000ft would'nt go amis. Give me a 757 any day Boeing should've dumped them CFMs on the longer NGs but as usual operating costs outweigh performance. Just hope the 7E7 doesn't end up like the 737-800/900. At least Airbus finally saw sense with the A340-500/600 compared to the CFM powered step climbers! Can't see the cost of an extension being justified if RYR just do DUB from BPL. I await correction by any 738 drivers out there!
