This appears to be a DNS problem with BT. You need to do a DNS change.
Do a google search for: "We couldn’t connect to the update service. We’ll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn’t work, make sure that you’re connected to the Internet."

That seems quite plausible. BT would likely fix it.
