I remember Sky News covered live the landing of the first aircraft after the runway reopened - it was a Continental Boeing 757 from Newark that landed in wet weather amongst a shower of spray.

More "time drift" than thread drift, I was on board that Continental Boeing 757-200, as related in detail in Post 255 at Another Aircraft off the Runway at BRS? MV refers above to the aircraft landing in "a shower of spray", whilst my recollection on having watched the landing on local TV that evening was that the bow wave made it look more like a flying boat landing!

For interest, Captain Buchman contacted me in July 2010 to request a meeting on the occasion of his forthcoming last visit to Bristol to say thank you for my post, which had apparently contributed to his being selected to be a TC. All due to someone at the then Continental HQ seeing my post apparently, so clearly one should never underestimate the "Power of PPRuNe"! It also turned out that he is a very accomplished glider pilot.

PS I hope that I may similarly be allowed to compliment MV on the outstanding job he does in keeping us all posted on what's going on at Bristol - much appreciated.
