I fully understand where you are coming from, but if difficulty and risk were the sole basis of reward, I could have retired after a few of my “mid career” jobs.

Seriously, as pilots, we have to point out to the ignorant that we often do not earn our money on the easy days, maybe not even on the normal days....... I’ve heard it described as “I don’t get paid this well for what I do. I get paid this well for what I can do, and what I’ve done learning to do what I can do.” (I’d add: “and knowing what I can’t do”)

The less experienced pilots push on, when the more experienced pilots turn back. The most experienced pilots are drinking coffee in the Planning Room, wondering why anyone would take off, given the current conditions.
