I served there twice in the middle 50s both on the fire crew and in ATC after 1st commissioning Eagle. in Nov 51.
We lived in Seco huts (before the built modern accomodation.)

At that time of first posting....t he NAFFI Cinema and Church and wardroom were Nissen huts.....The tower had rough wooden floors and the ground floor so called GCA Room (empty bar for gooseneck flares) had salt dropping off the walls!
was posted to Eagle (again) and returned to Brawdy in 1956......new buildings -luxury!! The sick bay was down the road near Brawdy Turn...outside the main station.

The Dartmouth Squadron operated from Brawdy with Balliol aircraft t a few Seahawk squadrons were also there.
Brawdy hosted the AIRWORK aircraft conversion unit at St Davids for night flying when dive bombing also took place on a target in St Brides Bay. Meteor aircraft were used.......

"Winkle" Brown was Commander (Air) ( I did his typing as it was found I could type ok!) He and I went off in an S51 chopper looking for the Moby Dick rubber whale that broke adrift from the film crew in Cardigan Bay..never found it...

"Hoagy" Carmichael (he was reputed to have 'killed' a MIG flying a SeaFury over Korea)..was Little 'F' and I think Cameron VC (X-sub & Tirpitz fame) was Commander with either D.C.E.F Gibson as Captain (Guy's brother). or it was Stoving - Bradford. (its and age thing)!

Nice place in Summer...hell on earth in winter up on that hill above Newgale Beach!! I remember the Met Office there recorded a 120 knot gust of wind that collapsed a hangar sideways over a squadron of Seahawks...That gust also removed the roof of the fire crew's Seco hut. These huts adjoined a farm, beyond which, up a slope of about 1/2 mile were the western hangars.
The farmer on the western edge of the airfield used to take pot shots at the Hawks as they taxiied past his place!!
