My mate was stacking shelves at Woolies while I was a proud commercial pilot not long ago. I gave up because he was making twice the money I was earning without worrying about medicals and IFR renewals.
Mrs Pinky, retired just over 12 months ago after working for just over 40 years in a Vineyard owned by a fairly large company. She made more money at that job than I ever did as a Pilot!
