For the sake of £300 and a few extra weeks, it gives you more options. It doesn't force you to follow them up. For me it would be a no-brainer .....
I appreciate what you say about the IR, however if you wanted to move onto commercial instruction at Oxford for example, an IR would undoubtedly be helpful.
