Is it all connected by wifi, or do any of the things connect with ethernet cables? That may explain some things. I know we all tend to be lazy and use wifi for everything, but where it doesn't need drilling holes in walls etc if you have something in a fixed location is is often (or even usually) better to connect them with cables - your wifi only has a limited capacity (typically either ~50kbps or ~120kbps depending on your particular stuff) and this is SHARED between everything you have on wifi. Whereas a typical router has 4 ethernet ports, each of which has a capacity of eithe 100kbps or 1,000kbps (aka "gigabit").
