Interesting question..
Interesting question and more interesting is the lack of replies.. I am guessing the answer is what seems obvious..? Personal feeling is that its a teaser to make people apply and then offering a CAN base..

I don't know how much clearer I can be. CSA has A330 pilots based in Melbourne & Brisbane. That's it! All other bases are proposals only and will only eventuate if sufficient pilots are recruited.

Just wanted to mention that its far from obvious and not everyone is following the inside info on these job offerings. Hence the use of this forum. It may dawn on you that some people might be trying to figure out the validity of the "basing" offerings made by these China companies. There are a lot of different ways to define basings,- for starters:
Some think its a commuting base and you can jumpseat to your heart's content on the employing airline to your home country.
Some think its an operational base, where you start and finish your of days in between flights as well as contractual OFF time ( i.e.,10/15 days or 2/3 weeks in a row, whatever the contract is).
There are huge difference in the implications of the above, since China is neither close to the US, OZ, South America or Europe, which probably makes for the main target pilot demographic interested in these jobs.
You can spend 40 hours commuting on a jumpseat per month or you can have this time in an operating seat and thus make up of approx. 1/2 of your monthly contractual working commitment toward the airline.
So I would like to invite anyone with some "real" information on CSA or any other Chinese airline that offers operating bases in countries other than China or the already mentioned Oz.
Please pm me, anyone, with some real feedback on how it gets handled on a day to day basis by CSA.

OK Chinos. Seeing as 230+ posts in 'CSA China Southern!' and what I thought was a fairly straight answer isn't enough, here it is:
CSA has A330 Captain's based in Melbourne and Brisbane.
If you find this a little hard to follow then I wish you good luck with the screening. You will need it.
CSA has A330 Captain's based in Melbourne and Brisbane.
- A 'base' for CSA's operation means that you sign on and sign off at that location.
- 'Sign on' means that you start a duty.
- 'Sign off' means you have completed a duty.
- When 'signing on' you will normally operate from MEL or BNE to CAN. Occasionally you will pax instead. When 'signing off' you will normally have operated from CAN to MEL or BNE. Occasionally you will pax instead.
- A duty may be MEL or BNE -CAN- MEL or BNE, or it may involve additional flights from CAN (and return) before completing the final flight back to your base. eg 'MEL-CAN-AMS-CAN-MEL'. (See 1 for definition of 'base')

The only active bases outside of CAN right now are primarily...
for the A330 crowd there are two bases within Australia.
for the 787 last week they finally announced AKL as a base and it will be built up shortly.
YVR nor any European bases have began.
There are currently NO bases for the 777.
There are rumours that YVR may switch back to the 777 and then it or LAX may become a base, but for now any 777 driver (there are 35 foreign pilots on 77) must either move to CAN or commute.

Quick question, and yep I have read the other thread but can't seem to ascertain the situation.
Is the 320 to 330 hiring/conversion system actually in place, has anybody done it, and would they care to comment.
I fly into China every week, I have lived in Asia for a while, I am aware of the inherent risks of going to work for these chaps, I would just like to know if this program is up and running and if so has it worked out for anybody.
