Is it right time to build a career in flying for a middle class 12th pass like me?

I am interested in building my career in Aviation, I have recently given my class 12th Board Examinations whose results will be out in May I suppose.
Now, I wish to acquire a CPL(Commercial Pilot's License) to kick start a succesful career in flying.
Currently, I will be taking an appointment with a DGCA approved doctor for my Class II Medical Examination after which I shall be announced fit to pursue a CPL.

I wanted to know about the prospects of Civil Aviation in India.

What is the road towards CPL like?

Is it a rewarding career?

I have showed interest in the following Flying Clubs-

Chimes Aviation Academy
Carver Aviation Academy
IGRUA
Flytech Aviation
Indore Flying Club
Out of these Carver Aviation has gloriously mentioned its students' placements on their website here- Welcome to Carver Aviation
Are these Academies good enough to acquire a "strong" CPL and are they good when it comes to Placements?

Please help me in my quest to build a succesful Flying Career.

Then I saw this-Unemployed pilots form union, submit demands to govt - Times Of India

I am confused, is it the right time to start up a career as a pilot?

Or should I just follow my inclination towards Mechanical Engineering and pursue B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from a good college?

If you study hard and dedicate yourself into it then you can make it easily, if not then you will struggle badly. its not a degree but its not a walk in a park

Is it a rewarding career?

Yes its rewarding, you will make good money if you are flying a shiny jet, if not then its just bread. You should come to this career if you really love aviation, if you are coming for the money, lifestyle or just thinking its 'cool' to be a pilot then dont show your head cause you wont like it till a certain age. So ask yourself if you really want to get into it and that you will love aviation till the end....

Aviation is growing in India but the situation for new CPL holders are not that great. The only proper job you can do with a CPL is flying aeroplanes. So if you not sitting inside the cockpit wearing a cap and golden bars, then a CPL is virtually worthless. Considering the current state in India I would advise you to get a degree in a non aviation related field, preferably in IT and finance. Because it will be a big backup to you. After you end with degree then go for CPL if the situation gets up well, I know its really hard to hang up for 3 to 4 years to get the degree and putting your aviation dream aside but you need to face the reality then you will realize.

And as far as Flight schools are concerned, I wont recommend you any schools in India except IGRUA and the placements you see in carver school was back in the boom days, its not just carver flight school, almost everyone with a CPL were hired. No flight school in India has dealings with airlines to place students except IGRUA where few gets into air India every year. SO dont get lured by these flight school. If you want to do flying go learn it in USA, its cheap and high quality.

so is it the right time to start up a career as a pilot?
NO.
its good to start when you have the money and a good backup plan.

if you got more question feel free to mail me.

its not something like BSC/BCOM or engg etc. there is nothing so difficult to study. you need to study a lot of things. but none of them are so tough if you compare engg medical etc. from the study-hard work aspect it is not that tough.
but yes, "the road" is not so smooth and fine. you need to overcome a lot of barriers, pull carts through pot holes. medical, flying, radio license, paper works etc etc.
lot of money involved for the training and apart from that, the number of cpl holders in india is exponentially rising.

gone are the days that merely holding a cpl a company will plead you to join it.now you need to have experience, money, type rating, contacts etc.

yes it is. but you need to work hard for quite a long time for that. if you really want to be a pilot, and if you really have that aviation zest, you should not consider rewards. flying will itself be a reward for you and salary and perks would hardly matter.

students' placements
PLEASE, if you want to talk about flying, dont talk about placements !! this is not a degree course. and there are not that many jobs as the number of aspirants. nowhere there is a placement in aviation.

schools -

as our other friend said, US is a good place. or rather the best place to train at. cheap, efficient, and great quality wise. I wish I was trained there.

you are confused. unmatured as well. why do you expect people in a public forum to suggest about what line you should opt for.
go and make up your mind. if only you want to be a pilot, come back here.
and if you have that interest in aviation, if you love to fly, love to see airplanes, if you ever wonder how such big metals fly and want to give it a try by yourself, if you are really amazed when such big machines at high speeds land over earth so smoothly, when you want to find out the secrets of these things, join a flight school and be an aviator.

yes, if you want a "successful career", if you are concerned about rewards, payments, salaries, if you are concerned about the hardships to get a CPL, if you are really confused whether you can put all those effort or not, and if you really seem to confused between aviation and mechanical engg and medical or whatever is your second option.. well, then may be sky is not your play ground.

I dont like to see such people coming into aviation. honestly, at one point of my life, I was at your stage. I was equally confused as you are. I was also aware of the bitter truths of Indian aviation. I also belong to a "middle class" family. but then, I never asked anybody's suggestion about it. there was no second option for me. I had to do it, and I am doing it. I have to hear a lot from people/family/friends etc. but the inside part of me knows that finally I am happy. I have no job. but I am no failure.

TRY ???? NO !! there is DO.. and there is DO NOT.. there is no TRY for a PILOT !!!!

@abhipuru16

If u want a job join RGNFTI, Gondia or IGRUA, Rae Bareily, both have good placements wid airlines like Qatar Airways, Air India/Indian Airlines and Indigo.
Both have selection exams which are very hard.

If u want to save money, time and want to have fun, then go to US or any other country, bt u will have to struggle alot for a job as FAA theoretical knowledge base is insuffiecint for clearing airline written exams, u will have to work extremely hard and struggle alot once you are back to india.

Whereas IGRUA or RGNFTI wont let u start flying unless u pass a few internal exams, which are very hard, if you fail them they'll demote u to a junior batch, and if u still fail they will terminate you.

hey whoever you are, hats off to you, you got here on this forum, so so early. proves that you are smart.

please please do something else in life. 5000 jobless pilots in india. you might be the best. but certainly, i would advise you, dude this is a bad bad situation we are in. do not want you to face it man.

i certainly would not advise anybody close to me to get into this. it all looks rosy but i am telling you, no airlines are hiring mate and does not look as if they are going to hire many soon. most people are joining call centers and similar jobs with a cpl in their wallet. i do not want to see any more of those man. it feels so so sad.

i mean lets make it simple. if your dad has got tonnes of money and you have nothing to worry, just jump and start swimming, but if you are like should i, should i not then dude PLEASE A BIG ''NO NO''. please do not even think of.

Have fun in life.good luck.

Get a degree first and have a back up plan..Nobody can say if its a good time to start your CPL training..but you should know that it would require an investment of over 30 lacs at least and thats just the training part. If you do decide to go ahead then please please please do it abroad..preferably on Canada or Australia (IGRUA is the only good flying club in India).

This industry is like a sin curve it goes up and then down..The job market is down right now but it just might pick up soon..but remember there are about 4-5000 jobless pilots so they are already ahead of you..there are no easy answers..its tough to say a yes or a no..it all depends on you and your financial situation.

When I got into flying I had a lot of dreams but they were all shttered when I came back to India..there is just too much corruption and nepotism..its all about connections..so you need to be metally prepared to swim in some crap.

Dont go through any agent..contact schools directly. And dont fall for that quick 6 month CpL thing..Its impossible to do it without faking your hours or without compromising on your training quality. It will take atleast 1-2 yrs.

The subjects are not very tough but then they are not easy..so you need to be on top of of your game study wise.

There is a lot of cut throat competition and yes it has become a rat race..

Remember Trust No One in this Industry.
