That's what I was wondering. I heard from one of my friends who is a S/O that things are not great at the moment. Apparently a lot of cost cutting going on?! Anyone heard anything?
What are the current rosters like? Do you have to live there all the time or are there enough days off together to commute between duty periods? If you join with the jet experience greater 20t do you progress any quicker?
Crap. Potentially but don't count on it every month, and no chance of a base. You will certainly be able to commute to your 400sq' rented apartment though. Sure, if an expansion is planned you will upgrade more quickly, but not before the guy with 250hrs that joined the day before you, its called seniority.
Um...you'll find, in the very near future, that as the first of our "zero to hero" types approach the top of the S/O list, that promotions will be merit based. The GMT has already decided that this will happen. You should know that CX doesn't respect seniority in any case. It's whatever is expedient (and saves money).
Expect DEFOs as well, as the upgrade success rate slows. We all know that CX will do it again.
There WILL be bypassed S/O's, and a lot of them. Having flown with a bunch of them on both sides of the competency/experience scale, I'm loath to admit that I agree with this move.

And once that goes through next will be JFO to FO merit based upgrade, then FO to Captain merit based upgrade...and the next thing you know we are all backstabbing brown nosers. Seniority MUST stay. What's the difference if a guy can't cope under the seniority upgrade system or the merit based system. In both systems, if he can't cut the mustard he is gone, however one system is open to corruption and abuse, whilst the other is completely transparent and fair.
In the airline world live your life by the old adage, 'don't dip your pen in the company ink.' It will save you a LOT of hassles and possibly your job.
