Can't speak for South African Scareways, but your last comment is rather far from the truth.

CX pay on both a local contract or NZ based is significantly higher than ANZ over the length of your career.

Yes, but what about your quality of life and your cost of living!

That's not what was stated nor implied(

"SAA an Air NZ definitely have better payscales than CX. That can be assured."

SA lifestyle? Big house, I guess. Couple of big drawbacks, which no amount of money could solve.

I'll also get upgraded, irrespective of my race or creed. That's a bonus.

Has recruitment stopped at Cathay? It seems to have gone very quiet!

That's what I was wondering.
I heard from one of my friends who is a S/O that things are not great at the moment. Apparently a lot of cost cutting going on?! Anyone heard anything?

What are the current rosters like?
Do you have to live there all the time or are there enough days off together to commute between duty periods?
If you join with the jet experience greater 20t do you progress any quicker?

Crap.
Potentially but don't count on it every month, and no chance of a base. You will certainly be able to commute to your 400sq' rented apartment though.
Sure, if an expansion is planned you will upgrade more quickly, but not before the guy with 250hrs that joined the day before you, its called seniority.

BBB

Um...you'll find, in the very near future, that as the first of our "zero to hero" types approach the top of the S/O list, that promotions will be merit based. The GMT has already decided that this will happen. You should know that CX doesn't respect seniority in any case. It's whatever is expedient (and saves money).

Expect DEFOs as well, as the upgrade success rate slows. We all know that CX will do it again.

There WILL be bypassed S/O's, and a lot of them. Having flown with a bunch of them on both sides of the competency/experience scale, I'm loath to admit that I agree with this move.

Yes, real good especially if you like noodles, walking around shops, and 'Hello Kitty' .

Well. I guess I'm sold. That's really my only motivation for this deal. Should I tell them that in the interview ?

Some are psychos though, get the wrong one upset and you could end up in jail in a far away country with no job!

In addition, the tarts are not interested in pilots who have no housing allowance.

Well that's no fun Dan, The best thing about the airlines are the flight benefits and the pen dipping.

Dreams

im 15 now and it is my ultimate dream to become a cathay pacific pilot or qantas pilot. it looks like i will be doing the cathay pacific cadetship because i am able to get a HKID although i live in perth my dad lives in HK for work.
All of the above has given me doubts about the cathay cadetship course and how they treat their pilots, but I know if i dont do this i wont be happy doing anything else, i will always be thinking what it would be like to being flying for my ultimate airline.
So yes it will be a struggle and not much pay and so fourth but i already know i love the city (due to me flying up there on my holidays to see dad!) and I am prepared too take on the hardship for multiple years but in the long run it will hopefully pay off.
But still i am open to suggestions to how i should follow my aspiration to fly for BA,CX or QF since i have an australian passport, british passport and HKID.
