Orbiting on Final or base under ATC instructions not particularly unusual in my experience. Maybe I'm unlucky.
Certainly it's extremely common on downwind.

The less flying you do, the less fuel you buy. If you don't fly at all you won't have to buy any fuel at all.

Flying away from the airfield will also leave the aircraft well short of a runway environment. Should we not do that or do engines only fail when approaching the field? Why fixate on engine failures...
