KenV,

See following F-4J image link. The probe is still on the starboard side. Fairing on the port side.

Here is what was causing the smoke in #116 although this is a Bruggen one whereas the one firing was from Coningsby.

The F-4J had an ECM fairing on both intakes.

Here's something a bit older - TAC Weapons Meet, Wildenrath 1967. However, I do wish I still had the photo of the F4 nicely illuminated in our Shack gunsight complete with both Hispanos also pointing at it (both aircraft in about 60 degree bank)!

Having been a devoted Phantom Phan since my uncle first took me to see them at Coningsby in the early 70's, I figured I'd throw in my tuppence ha'penny...

A F-4D of the 178th FIS/119th FIG, ND ANG, over Crater Lake...

A FG.1 of 892 NAS about to launch from Ark Royal...

Sorry about the quality, but the photo is very faded. Remember rushing around like this and firing sneb mini ripples on Cowden for CTTO.

Double missile firing! Very much doubt it was an air show!

Air Show Ordnance

An air show indeed, and one that also included an A-7 Mk 82 drop, and F-14 strafing passes. Multiple attempts to launch an AIM-9 at a flare target were foiled by boat traffic intruding into the range safety area.

72-1481

Visiting Aviano from Ramstein, May 1984. I've always preferred the proportions of the longer-nosed models.

Re post 135, must just have been towed into that position. The 'puddles' aren't big enough for a longer stay! I remember walking along a line of Leuchars F4s bolt-holed to Kinloss in the 80s: some of the leaks produced puddles the size of Findhorn Bay!
