I have heard from a good friend that as of the next leave year, we are getting cut from 30 to 28 days annual leave ..... Apparently this is to bring us inline with civillian practices, and is in black and white in a recent DCI?

I have not had chance to check for myself yet, but it sounds like we are being shafted again ... Anyone care to have a look or dig a bit further, as I am on leave for a couple of weeks so won't get chance to read it myself.

I really do hope it is wrong as it seems a suicidal policy to cut one of the few remaining benefits

Tell your slypdexic friend to re-check his DCI - it was an increase to 38 days, thus allowing statutory bank holidays to be taken at any time without the non-existent pay clerks (courtesy of JPA) having to manually enter this entitlement each time.

Also, IIRC, of these 38 days, 30 are now officially a right, and not a privilege -in keeping with extant employment legislation. Hoorah. Now stop moaning and try to keep those Hercs serviceable so the people who really matter can get their R+R.

The more significant change was to include all the Public Holidays in the basic leave entitlement. This reduced the Pstaff workload inputting PH on everybody's leave record, and makes it easier to take those days off at a time of your own choosing. If for example you are somewhere sandy for Christmas, the 3 PH (25 & 26 Dec and 1 Jan) will be available to you outside of the Det whenever you want them, subject to overriding Service reasons as ever. It also makes working out your leave pass easier - JPA does the weekends automatically, so if it's not PODL or some such, just put the dates in, select ILA, and press submit. They have even been astute enough to note that those based in Scotland (and NI?) are on a different PH regime, and to confirm that seaparate arrangements will be made for them. Also, the carry forward rules have been clarified and (I think) made a bit more generous. I did note some comment along the lines of 28 days being a legal entitlement, but this seems to be a distinction without a difference - they are not going to give pay in lieu of lost leave, and the high-priced help seem to be anxious for everybody to get their leave as far as possible.

I think it's a positive change overall.

I wish I had my original TOS when it was 42 days albeit including weekends if you rleave ran over a weekend. This was six weeks annual leave at a time when civvies worked a 48 hour week and did not get every other Saturday and every Wednesday afternoon off and only got two weeks leave.

IIRC there was never a suggestion that leave was a privilege.

What is quite obvious is that civilian working hours have shrunk to less than an average serviceman's but their holiday time has expanded to the same. Many civilians also get an annual bonus equivalent to one month's pay.

I vaguely remember catching the tail end of that when I was at Sleaford Tech, thought they were up to something funny by reducing the amount of leave. Then again, I think I've had 45 days leave every year for the past 5 or so years Not that I ever manage to take it

But back to the original thread, it probably explains why my leave totals have been up and down more than a tarts knickers the past few weeks as our adminers have tried to implement the PH entitlement. Thought that I was onto a winner when they tinkered with it at the same time I unknowingly put a leave pass in for a long weekend and found that my ILA had actually gone up by 4 days. For a brief moment, I figured that maybe there was a God afterall!
