Reds at Cosford.

Was at Cosford Airshow on Sunday enjoying the sonorous sounds of Merlin engines when suddenly nine red jets appeared. Within five minutes the airfield was blanketed with a dense fog of red, white and blue smoke. Surely this sort of blatant pollution cannot be tolerated. Are the RAF not familiar with the clean air act? Not only are these emissions exceedingly damaging to our life sustaining atmosphere but, with diesel now over £1.30 per litre, they are also very damaging to the poor tax payers pocket! If this appalling situation wasn't bad enough, there then took place what was called a 'role demonstration'. This involved some more jets with dirty tails wandering aimlessly around whilst a man on the other side of the airfield ran around frantically setting off big petrol bombs. More pollution caused, not to mention the millions of blades of grass that died just to entertain a few people.

I feel sure that our beloved Prime Minister will act soon to stop this sort of thing happening in the future.

PS I did rather enjoy the RAFs specialist airshow aerobatic machine but am a little puzzled why they named it after a proper combat aircraft!

Shame the Navy Lynx decided to start up just as the sonorous harmonies of the BBMF Merlins were becoming audible and treated us to a noisy rotors-running obbligato for the entire display. Some of us like to hear classic big pistons unaccompanied by the sound of more modern machinery.

Evidently a subtle ploy on the part of the Navy to remind us who really won the Battle of Britain . . .

WTF did you go to an airshow for?? to see the Shifnal pram pushing display team??

Get a bloody life man. If you don't like it thats fine. But don't go to an airshow and then complain because there some aircraft there, thats what God made airfields for, Dumbo!!!

Did you drive there, get the bus or walk? I hope it was the latter.

Christ, some people - what do the want??

I'm starting a display team. We'll be demonstrating the erecting of garden buildings.

I'm calling it the Shed Arrows.

Coats etc.

Airborne Artist,

I too am starting a display team along similar lines to you...but mine comprises of nine men dressed in red jump-suits and pushing a red hand-held wheeled carrying device in a synchronised fashion...ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Red Barrows!

Hope this won't offend dakkg651!

I did not want to go to an airshow. I assumed the traffic jam on the M54 was due to an RTA and thought we had been diverted off the motorway. I just followed the cars in front as they seemed to know where they were going.

Don't you dare knock the Shifnal Pram Display Team. They were brilliant! The formation changes I thought were far snappier than anything else I saw on the day and as for the Silver Cross synchro pair - wow! They were so close on the crossovers that I'm pretty certain they touched once or twice. Shame that the weather only allowed the low display.

It's called a Flat Display.

Who needs red wheelbarrows, when you could have had the green barrows, a team of real aeroplanes (for those who remember them).

Guess they would be the grey barrows nowadays

Fear not my good man. I actually thought your bite was more amusing than the original post!
Maybe you should have just raised the 'double bluff' card!

Neptunus Rex.

I'm afraid you're showing your ignorance.

In formation pram pushing a flat display is one where they let the air out of the tyres to give better traction on wet grass under high G conditions.

Now if your talking about the Dead Sparrows display, that was pretty flat.

Seriously, the best display of the day was by Ian Gallagher in the vintage Lo100 glider. Finished off with a low inverted pass with an even lower roll out. I believe the display director was so impressed he sent for Ian ten seconds after he landed.

Don't you mean the Green Marrows of 231? Last seen in 1989 at Wyton.

Our Formation Team on Gan was the Red Helmets. Outstanding at ground loops but x-overs tended to be a bit wobbly.

651,

I too was at Cosford and agree that the glider display was very impressive. I did think at the time though that the Lo100 pilot was trying to save his skid further wear and tear!
