Thanks for the info. How long for a class date after your interview? I am assuming you were selected. What about an HR interview or techincal interview? Are you given a chance to come to Oman to check things out (schools, housing etc) before you accept the offer? Is it a 1 day interview?
Anyone current OA guys? How are you liking it? Especially would like to know from those from the "post honeymoon" period or those who aren't drinking the company coolaid anymore! (i.e been there for than 1 year).

oman air interview
Class date will be given after your confirmation to them your earliest date of joining. that day HR question was general question (e.g. why do you want to join them, family, flying hours, etc). No chance given to come to Oman before accept the offer, but you only have to give 1 week notice within the first 3 months, as it is probation time, if you do not wish to continue the contract. It is a 1 day interview.

an old fart like me should not have to tell some young ace how to find a webpage , but here goes anyway :-
Omanair .aero webpage , click on About Us ( top right ) then careers from the drop down menu , then Vacancies on the Menu top left . You have to get past the Cabin Crew advert !! Good luck.

I would like to hear from NG Capts currently at Oman Air. In particular I am interested in the following information (any or all). Thanks in advance.
1. Rostering. How many days on/off a week on average?
2. Monthly hours average and overtime?
3. Any shipping allowance or help with finding housing etc?
4. Any advance payment for rent as may be required by landlords in Muscat?
5. Anybody ship their car from Europe or North America?
6. Trip construction--How many sectors a day on average? Where do you overnight mostly on the NG? How are the hotels etc?
7. How are you treated overall by the management?
8. If you are there now for a 1 year would you consider staying or are you looking to leave to go elsewhere?
9. Anyone with kids in school, how do the kids like it?

Is there anyone from Oman Air on pprune? I will say that no one seems to be complaining about Oman Air and so that's a really good sign
I am considering applying there and have a couple of questions listed above. Any answer (s) will be greatly appreciated. Also two added questions:
1. Housing--what are the desirable areas in Muscat close to the International Schools (British School and ABA). What are the average prices for a villa? The housing allowance seems a bit low.
2. Transportation--Does OA provide it or do you get an allowance for it.
Thanks

NG--It seems like there isn't an OA person around to answer any of your questions. Try OmanForums and you will find a wealth of information on life in Muscat. They will have information on schools etc as well. Not sure what the schooling allowance is at Oman Air, but the schools will run around 3,000 Riyals approximately per year depending on the age of the child and the grade attending. The British School seems to be highly regarded but there is a long wait list. For housing try Oman Homes on the web. I think you will be able to find a villa for around 1,000-1200 Riyals a month (4 bedroom). An area called MSQ is listed as an expat neighborhood. Not sure of the distance from the airport.

NGFellow ,
Transport NOT provided , or an allowance , as Farrell said -its a pleasure to buy cars and petrol here .
Accom allowance IS low ( rents doubled in a year ) but it is being looked at . The schools you mention are in MSQ and Al Khuwayr - rents high there now , most of us live out beyond airport , so long slog through traffic to said schools , but there are other schools . The amount of accomodation now being built indicates that rents will turn eventually , The Wave is going to put plenty of property on the market - the initial offerings are high-rent but it is just the early birds trying to cash in on the shortage , this is not Dubai.
Difficult to answer yr questions re - rostering etc , the company is going through massive expansion / change etc and there has been , and will be , shortages of crew which cause instability of roster at times , the trainers being one-armed paper hangers at the mo. A new Roster system comes in shortly , high hopes all round. A new leave system is also being started for 09
. Lots of new hulls on order , but the Boeing strike is causing some delays to the plan , recruiting may be slowed down somewhat until it is resolved , but the new route structure will be announced shortly , rumours are good , and of course the A330s arrive next year which is going to be a huge step.
Exciting times indeed , it is good to be here , nice place , nice people , hard to realise there is a financial catastrophe going on elsewhere . I know I am glad to be here.
Unless you have a very secure job somewhere with better t&c's , get applying.

Thanks for the wealth of information. As noted most seem pretty happy at Oman Air. What is the neighborhood where most of the OA pilots live?
Would by any chance know what the schooling allowance is per child? I better get busy!!

The crew that have been here a while and have low-rent agreements from before the increases seem to be mainly in MSQ , Qurm and Al Khuwayr , which are near most schools and nearer to 'town' . However , getting home in the morning after a night-flight can be very slow as the highway gets busier and busier. The rest of us are in Al-Hail (North and South ) and Al Mawalyeh in the western 'suburbs' . I only need to go to town occasionally , take 8 minutes to work , and we have the major malls etc around us , so a lot of the townies come out here to shop ! Also , villas seem to be larger out here .
I do know that schooling allowance has increased , you get 75% of the 'band' that you are in . I suggested to the management that Omanair should build their own school .

Go to the website www.omanhomes.com. You can search properties and you will get an idea about costs. If you want to stay in a predominently expat (western) area expect to pay more. Probably double of your allowance. If you are comfortable in a lower rent district then you should be able to find suitable accomodation within your budget give or take a few OR's. That has been my finding.
