Flydubai B737 Type Qualification

So hello..
I'm 19year old with 250 hours, live in Belgium.
I'm about to sign contract with CAE training center in Dubai for the B737 type qualification program CAE/Flydubai...

details are here:
https://pilot.cae.com/Programs/FlyDubai.aspx

Any advice on how my future will look is really appreciated..
Thanks

I can't open the link at the minute so sorry if it has changed, but I saw this a good few months ago and I can not for the life of me understand why anyone would do it.

CAE oversee the Ryanair stuff, and there are enough opinions about that on here in itself, but at least you are more or less guaranteed employment by the time it comes to paying them anything (aside from the assessment fee whatever it is, like 300 euros or something I think?).

With the flydubai scheme, what you are doing is completely self sponsoring a type rating with no guarantee of a job, simply to QUALIFY for an ASSESSMENT to MAYBE get a job.

If you want a 737 rating and you want to pay for it yourself, there are plenty of places that will offer the course for I am sure about a third of what CAE will charge for it, and you will be only at a very very slight disadvantage to doing this scheme.

To sum it up really, you are paying likely €30k+ as an assessment fee.

Too annoying to wait for a call from Ryanair maybe?

Just to qualify myself, NPPL and no ambition or chance to go any further and happy with it.

Looking at the ad it strikes me that there is no mention of cost until you have registered and get the hard sell. As said above there are many places that will sell you a TR at very probably a lot less than these guys want. Reading further into it they say that application to FlyDubai requires 52 hrs full sim experience which is more than you will get with another provider. So it is a closed shop between FlyDubai and CAE, nice little earner. To make it seem less of a closed shop there are another couple of options but I would bet my pension that only those that go through CAE and have the 52hrs will get a look in.

If you have to buy a TR then first decide which one will give you the best chance of employment where you want to be. 320 or 737. Buy it with regard to price and company reputation and then sell yourself to airlines that do not yet take a kickback from training organisations. I believe there are still a few around.

Please remember that this opinion is just from someone who reads these threads and has a lot of sympathy for those trying to break into airline flying while predatory organisations attempt to fleece them.

@hazholmes, I have been in contact with Dubai and since I turn 20 before the start of the training, there is no issue.

@OhNoCB I have been waiting for 9 months to get invited by CAE. I only did MCC at CAE, not my full training.

It seems that about half of the people doing this program land the job at Flydubai. And yes indeed the TR is pricey

9 months is not really a long time. Plenty of people have waited longer, also a lot have waited less but thats just the way their schemes work.

When did you finish training? How many places have you applied to? Have you considered all routes?

I had to wait over a year to get my first jet job, but I went out of my way find a job in between to give me some experience (and also a small (very small) wage). Lots of people wait plenty longer than this as well.

Everyones situation is different, I just feel that at 19 years old, if you can afford to pay for a 30k assessment, you can probably afford to spend some more time hunting, searching, and if needs be waiting for a better opportunity to come along.

One of the few operators left with integrity is about to sell out to CAE.

How desperate are you? How about NOT paying to do this scheme, instructing, moving on to light twins, turbo props. Enjoy the job as you progress your skills, experience life as a pilot. Learn to respect yourself and others who work to improve themselves, without degrading this industry anymore.

Then if you really want Dubai, let them interview you, pay you as you do a type rating, and get a sensible FO salary.

Or you could bend over and take a big shafting.

Or perhaps you wanted to hear "well done good way to get into a jet".

45 years ahead of you. What is the rush?

If you cannot find a job as a pilot, try to get other job in Aviation.

Ramp Agent, Flight Attendant. Dispatch. Maybe even loader.

In the airline I work many had gone this way. I know already 3 rampies who got their FO job in our airline.

Myself I am also trying to do so. Hopefully it works out. The Airline I work for pays for TR and get pretty good Salary.
Nothing is guaranteed , but he. I dont pay a load of money on a MAYBE.
Now I dont pay anything and als get MAYBE a shot to upgrade to the RHS.
And its a great experience to see the otherside of the cockpit door. Get to know what the FA's have to deal with everyday.

I am very happy that I got this opportunity. And I am 29 yrs old. Even I dont rush. When time comes , then it comes. You are extremely young.

My message. WHY paying so much for a MAYBE and then have a TR which you have to keep current if you dont get the job at FlyDubai. And then also only 1 hour Actual on Type if you do BT. 30K for basically NOTHING.

Say NO to this crap and find other ways to get in.

Life does not know shortcuts.

Half the people land a job after?

Rubbish. Maybe one out of 20.

@pilotchute

+1

you are at the bottom of the hiring list, many emirati cadets waiting to join. this is a very risky gamble. if you think you can get up to standard at 250 hours and no other experience, be my guest.
