Airex Codes

[Thridle Op Des]

Many :sad: years ago I did my initial training and we used a shorthand code in our logbooks for the various air exercises we did (I think 18 was cross country). I believe that they were a throwback to the CFS syllabus. Does anyone have the decodes stashed away up in some dusty attic so I can work out what I did 29 years ago!

When I was taught to fly in 1962 by Charles Cockburn/Digby Docherty/Bernie Warman/Dick Gliddon to name a few of the Southend Flying School's instructors (also in G-AJUE/G-AGTX/G-AIZY) Stalls were Ex9, Spinning Ex10, Circuits Ex11/12 and first solo Ex13, the rest are also 1 number low, I don't know where the extra exercise was slotted in but I have a copy of the BLAC Instructors manual dated 1965 which has the exercises listed as they are now.

For those operating in the UK, Appendix 8 of Standards document 10A probides the definitive list.
But it has been modified to align with the revised JAA numbering system of 9 years ago not 29 years ago. The original list is in CAP 528 last published in 1987; if you can find one.
