Converting EASA CPL/IR to FAA outside USA
Hi there,
I hope some well informed FAA instructor/examiner can help me.
I am working as a volunteer pilot for Flying Medical Service here in Tanzania. We fly two C206s that are N registered. FLYING MEDICAL SERVICE - Arusha, Tanzania
I am a British citizen with an EASA CPL/IR and I have to convert to FAA before I can fly the 206s solo.
Is there any way I can do this without going to the US? I want a stand alone FAA licence (not the piggy back one) to avoid having to go to Europe every year to renew my EASA IR.

Yes and no...........
You have to do the following:
I don't know of any FAA Written (Computer) testing Centers in Africa.
Used to be one in Germany and one in Lebourget France.
You need a logbook sign off from an FAA Instructor.
You need two flights with an FAA examiner.
Once again, don't know of any in Africa.
Several examiners in Europe but they charge exorbitantly as they're the only one(s).
So unless you've been denied entry
going to the USA for 7-10 days seems to be the only efficient solution.
You have to do the following:
- FAA IR Written test
- FAA CPL Written test
- FAA IR Checkride
- FAA CPL Checkride

I have been struggling for some time as to how I'm going to get a stand alone FAA licence.
The only issue for me re coming to USA is the expense of the M1 visa and the Sevis they are 200 USD each, but it looks like I'll end up going to USA.

Do you know if there is a certain amount of hours with an FAA instructor you would have had to complete before taking your IR/CPL checkride? Can you recommend any schools, particularly in the Florida area?
