Talk Talk "Hack"
Not sure whether this or JB is the correct forum to post this, so I will throw myself upon the mercy of the Mods, As some of you may recall I asked for advice re TT scam calls a week or so ago can I ask once again for advice from those more experienced than I if, in light of recent events and revelations regarding this IMO very ill run organanisation (TalkTalk not Pprune!!) I can cancel my direct debit and A/c with TalkTalk without being charged a £200-00 pound cancelation fee. Imho they have NOT been of any help in helping me with security issues,
The company has an appalling customer service reputation and had already experienced serious data security issues before this latest incident.
Once the dust has settled, I think I'll either be changing back to BT or to Virgin - Talk Talk took over my Mercury, then ComTel service when those were sold on.

Thankfully I left TalkTalk a month ago, and having seen the CEO of TT on the TV news tonight, and looked at her history online I must say that I really don't like the "cut of her jib". I just hope that all of my data was deleted when I left.

You entered into a contract with TalkTalk whereby they agree to provide a certain level of service in exchange for a fee. Provided you are getting the service they promised, then you can't escape the cancellation fee if you decide to break the contract.
If they happen to reveal your banking or other personal details to a third party, that isn't strictly speaking affecting your phone/internet/TV service. So as long as they continue to provide that, you are up a creek without a paddle if you decide you want to switch providers without charge.
TalkTalk may be liable to ensure you receive appropriate compensation if you can demonstrate a loss due to the data hack, but this will most likely be limited to refunding any actual physical loss of money from your accounts, plus interest. Nothing for the inconvenience or trouble.
I'm sure the cash for trash lawyers will be all over the media and cold calling for the next few months promising you an instant fortune - it ain't going to happen.

Dream on. Nothing is deleted these days.
Thankfully my contract period with TT had expired and I have just signed up with Plusnet. No more exasperated discussions with Indian call centre staff called 'Colin' or 'Robert'.
As for former customers, I think we can be confident that all of their personal details are still held by TalkTalk (and now, whoever has accessed them).

BBC today stating you can call an 0870 number to ring TT. At, 20p a minute
waiting for hours is a scam in itself. For anyone concerned and doesn`t know about "Say no to 0870" website, there is whole raft of 0800 numbers that can be used. I dumped TT years ago, and threatened them with legal action, but still wonder if my details are still on their records.

If you are a TT customer you won't be charged for phoning them, 0870 number or not.

I'm with TT now.
No problem with service.
But got a bit hacked off by them increasing my Broadband cost.
Then they go fishing for new customers offering free broadband.
I complained. They then sent a letter offering 50% discount on my current broadband package.
So far on two occasions I have phoned to get the package they have had problems with the system, just before this all blew up. Surprise.
I think they have a few more disgruntled customers who know how to hack into the system!

As along term, and generally satisfied, customer of TT I have been a little sympathetic over this recent hacking problem. However, while their website is down, they have still sent me a bill which presumably will be processed through a direct debit BEFORE they have sorted the problems out i.e. before the website is up and running so that I can check my bill.
But, more than that, I have been taking advantage of the 10% reduction by paying within 24 hours of receiving the bill. How can I pay with no access to the website.
This is the final straw, I will be changing to another provider as soon as it suites me.

A couple of years ago, I had a guy from TT call at the door and asked me to change to TT from AOL (which, as it happens, is actually supplied by TT). Deal sounded good so said Ok.
I eventually received two letters, one telling me the Direct Debit had been set up, the other declining my acceptance due to already having an ISP
One phone call to confirm that the DD was NOT in place and to tell them where to stuff it. I had the website open whilst on the phone and it said "we will sort everything" but the person on the phone was having none of it. That made two of us and I hung up.

I am coming up to my first anniversary with TalkTalk. I joined them with a 10% discount on line rental if I paid a year up front. Broadband was half price for six months.
I use VOIP (Voipdiscount) for all calls so no charges for calls via TT.
All in I have had a good year and no problems with broadband speeds.
They are now offering the same Value Line Rental of 10% discount if I pay my line rental up front and I get free broadband for the year. How good is that?
