Has anyone gone faster than 628kts GS in a 737 yet? I was quite impressed the other night somewhere over the Pennines(UK when I hit this dizzy speed.

Not the right plane I know, but the best I've seen is 540kts in a Citation 2 and 698kts in a 747-200 coming out of Narita.

Also not the right plane, but cruising at M.90 in a USAF F-105 into Okinawa many years ago, I got 705.

Geez toecutter that must have been the same day I saw 425Kts G/S for most of the way at that level Per/Adl in a C421C. Coulda made Mel non stop if I had been brave enough. :D

L10, FUK-NRT in 1993, FL410, 740 knots GS....yea, Lockheed! On descent, 760 knots for a brief time, the copilot qualified for his astronaut badge...

... would around 570kt on an Electra count for anything ? .... 737s always were a bit on the slow side ...

I'm not sure if these records are acceptable if Omega was the Nav unit measuring it? I am happy to accept IRS,INS,GPS,Loran C,Doppler and thats about it.
On the subject of Omega (ret'd), I am really glad submarines only went at 30 to 40 kts!!

I got 241 kts ground speed in a Beech Duchess enroute from Lake Taho to San Francisco at FL140 in 98. Got the photo to prove it.

Not sure if this is as impressive as it sounds, but 670mph indicated on Deltas fancy inflight map system, ATL-DUB, on a 777-200.

In those days it was the GS mode of a quaint form of kit called a Van X DME, forerunner to the current Int DME. DME an Oz invention by AWA in the good old days, when men were men, drank beer instead of chardonnay, leapt tall buildings with VLF Omega gear and wimmen did the washing up and ironed blokes shirts :D :p

BTW if Superman is so smart how come he wears his underpants outside his tights. :D

Broke 1000kts GS once and once only in a Phantom with a 170kts Southerly(!) tailwind over the North Sea.

Surely this thread is a little off topic now..?

I can't wait for the first SR71 driver to chip in...

Great number for a 737!!!

How much of TW?

The best number I got was 550 Kts on a 733! We intencionally increased it to almost barber pole to see how much could we get!

But 628... That`s something!!!

Cheers

About ten years ago, I made it Off LAX to
On MIA in 3:28 in an A300-600 with a Vmo
of 335 kts/Mmo .82! Over 600 Kts G/S from
San Simon, New Mexico to Houston, Texas!
Arrived MIA nearly 45 min ahead of schedule!
Had I been in a B-727, I could have beaten
3 hours!
Cheers, EBD

Impressive numbers until you think of what WOK and co do - with 100 Grannies along for the ride to boot
