Well, this is the Flying Instructors forum so I wondered what we might all think the answer is to this question:-

What is the underlying goal of all learning/training?

At the lowest level, I think all learning is aimed at creating understanding. Training is aimed at creating learning situations.

"Knowledge in itself is of little value, it is the use of Knowledge that makes it worthwhile." - Les Giblin

In the flying context, flying instructors need to achieve both of this goals to create a competent, safe pilot.

Nothing disturbs me more than hearing people complain of how pointless their theory training is. The task of an instructor is to teach the student how to use their knowledge.

The goal of the instructor is to inspire your student to emulate the superior skills that you have demonstrated to him/her.

Noggin's reply does beg the question "Can you be a good instructor and not be an ace pilot?"

The original question did not mention Pilots!

What is the underlying goal of all learning/training?

Don't Assume, CHECK!

Here's a clue!

Is the underlying goal of all training to:-

a) Get better with every "trial"

b) To learn from every "trial"

Have fun!
