Is this technology only really applicable to larger aircraft or can it be relevent to GA?

Is there any other (hopefully cheaper :bored:) technology that people use that is more effective in terms of GA? (that you would recommend)

In the uncertified world things like this are common;

The MGL Avionics Stratomaster ENIGMA (http://shop1.actinicexpress.co.uk/shops/partsforaircraft/index.php?cat=Stratomaster_Enigma&ActinicSID=be40c6fa6a290ae2731bb5d250f965da)

I have one and it offers full TAWS etc.

A Garmin 496, with its audio output wired to a spare input on your intercom, does the job very nicely.

Probably as well as the 4- and 5-digit priced GPWS products.

It makes it awfully hard to fly into a hill.

I've had this since about 2005.

Where it might be less than good is on a bodged instrument approach into say Innsbruck (http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/kithira/inns-big.jpg) but then I don't think any GPWS will work too well in that situation, because it would need to have the IAP/SID/STAR profiles programmed into it.

I fly with a GNS430 in the panel and a GPS unit running Skydemon stuck to the side window. Both get agitated when close to the ground with enough beeping and flashing to alert me. I think they both work well.
