I've made some Pitts S1 landings where I've felt duty bound to knock a few seconds off the P1 time on precisely those grounds....:}

P1 is the military equivalent of the civil PIC. In practice, they are synonymous.

Not quite, on V bombers we operated as P1 and P2, they designated the left and right hand seats. If the P1 was under check, the P2 was invariably Captain and PIC!
