African Vacation
Can anyone suggest any African holiday spots for a first timer where I can include a safari and some private aircraft rental? I will also be travelling as standby from Canada so any suggestions on where to fly from, maybe Heathrow or Frankfurt. Thanks in advance.

Namibia would be easy option,specialy from Frankfurt.I would imagin you will be flying on a ZED ticket.There are 4 flights a week from FRA to WDH.Always a few seats open.3 to 4 days to validate your licence and take a short check ride and easy air law test.Rent 172,182,210 or just about anything.Good strips all around at the lodges and they will give travel industry a decent rate.No bribery and corruption and safe.
prices: Cessna 172 +- U$ 130 per hour
Accommodation +- 50 U$ per night in Windhoek
+- 100 U$ at lodges
car hire +- 50 U$ small car with aircon
Beer +- 1 yes one U$
Big steak with extras +- 12 U$

Difference in South Africa is that you will continously have to look over your shoulder not to get robbed or murdred, but otherwise - similar to Namibia just 1000% more options. Various options for renting aircraft in all major South African city's.

flyndad, when will you be going ? I'll do a Namibia trip in June and if you go afterwards will be more than happy to share my experiences ! Looking fwd a lot to this

Namibia etc
I am also early planning for a trip around Namibia etc and found this website
www.selfflysafari.com which is a mine of information .It is actually the website of a company that do self-fly and it seems pointed mainly at americans ( with American prices ! ) . It has loads of good stuff ,especially licencing requirements ets , and some good photos.
Please can we share all info ?

South Africa and Namibia is so boring.
Might I suggest Angola. The wildlife
is second to none and a safari here will be a memorable one. 5 Star
hotels like in Huambo and Kuito is very reasonably priced and the food is
absolutely devine. You can fly direct to the city of Luanda, one of africa's
jewels where clean streets and low traffic congestion will make
sightseeing around this cosmopolitan centre a dream come true.
Low cost private aircharters can fly you to any exotic destination in this
tropical paradise like Malange with its tropical forests and Lucapa with its
world famous restaurants where lobster and white wine is a everyday
occurrence. The salt flats at Luena with its giant baobab trees or Uige
with its famous "Marbourg monkeys" can not be missed.

your wildest desires. Abundant wildlife and friendly locals will make your

Well, after you read this, I am sure you will consider it greatly.
I suggest you go to Uganda, yes that's right, Uganda!
Wildlife is awesome, people are friendly, weather is next to perfect.
WILDLIFE; Four enormous game parks to choose from, and of course not to mention the almost extinct gorillas located in Bwindi forest. The only place in the world that they are found. Tropical birds, and an array of exotic animals. Lake Victoria, the source of the river Nile that sustained the pharoahs of Egypt dating back to the days of the bible.
PEOPLE; Considered the friendliest in the entire world. In spite of all the hardships and troubles they have experienced.
WEATHER; The equator runs right through the heart of Uganda, thus leaving it with a tropical almost consistent weather trend. Lows will be around 18-20 DEGS celsius and highs will hover around 28-32 DEGS celsius. Year round!
To add to that, if you want to look at a truly "GREEN" country, then Uganda is your best bet. You will see green until your eyes can see no more.
KAFTC flying club will be the place to rent airplanes. They have it all from the 172 to the 206. check them out at www.KAFTC.com . Very nice guys, and I am sure you will agree when you meet them.

I'd suggest u go to Tanzania where u've got the most beautiful beaches ever with very nice resorts and the wild life is next to perfect contact a company like coastal for a C206 or 172 for rent otherwise go to Livingstone in Zambia u'll have an absolute blast

Is this the Luanda in Angola? I didn't think so. The prices for ridiculous accommodations was laughable, the traffic horrendous and that is only the beginning. Cannot imagine renting a light plane for a safari.
