Trevor Young

First off, I'm not in aviation........movies & theater are my thing. I was directed to this site by a friend who does a bit of stunt flying on the west coast.

I first met this mad, bad, wild child in the mid 60's in Morrocco. He was attempting to drive an ancient Hillman Minx down to Durban, S.A. and using a different name back then. He made it and I didn't see him again until around 1968 on the "Bullitt" film set, and again a couple of years later on "Le Mans". He was race car mad, Nascar, Drags, you name it, he had a go. Had a wife he didn't see in Calif.

I saw him around a few times over the years, but then lost touch, he apparenly had some success drag racing in England in the '70's and 80's.

I've tried all ways to track him down, and now I hear he became a commercial pilot in England late 80's. He would have been 40ish by then so I guess must be retired by now.

Can anyone help locate this interesting character ?

Hi Joey, welcome to PPRUNE. If the Trevor you are seeking also did some Mini car stunt driving in the film "The Italian Job" then he was a training captain at a British airline called British Midland (now known as bmi). Believe he retired some years back and I'm sure others will know more and maybe even a point of contact

Thanks for the welcome K.Why...........much appreciated.

That's more than likely him, I didn't work that movie, but he certainly drove in a number of others between racing commitments. He used a number of different alias's back then, maybe he still does.

Would that bmi airline still be in business, would you know where & who to contact inside ?

Joey, bmi is still in business (at the moment and credit crisis permitting still will be). Their corporate HQ is at Donington Hall in Derbyshire,UK and I know a few characters who work for them so I will make a few phone calls for you. I'm going away on a trip till Monday but if I get anything I'll PM you. Hopefully others can give you more info as well.

Yes Joey, Trevor Young ? as we knew him, definitely flew for British Midland (bmi) for about 20years I think, but I presume he's retired from active flying. I guess he would be in his late 60's by now. He spent a lot of his time training other pilots in the simulators. Whether he is still with us I couldn't say, as he just disappeared one day without saying where he was going!

There might be someone he keeps in touch with on the board who can tell you more. The admin people at bmi might help, but I fear UK privacy laws will get in the way of any meaningful information. Give them a ring 01332 810 741 and see if they'll help.

I knew he had a colourful past history that involved The USA and car racing. He was married to an English girl and they lived in Santa Barbara, I think, certainly W.Coast somewhere,so is probably your man.

I'll ask around to see if anyone has contact with him and let you know if I find out anything.

Moley.

Message for Joey...

Thanks for the PM. Tried to reply, but no joy.

Well I've asked around as promised, but it would seem he's just vanished !

Lots of guys/gals remember him well as an Airbus Training Captain, but no one has a clue to his whereabouts. Some didn't even realise he'd gone !

It was rumoured he lived somewhere in the Burnham, Bucks. area, not much help I know, but you may track him down with that info'.

I'm genuinely surprised no-one has contact, maybe K.Whyjelly has had more luck.

All sucess in your search, and will report if any news arises.

Moley.

IIRC Trevor was pretty good at concealing his whereabouts from crewing, so what chance do we have?:)

All my enquiries thus far have been as productive as Moleslayers ranging from a surprised "Doesn't he work here anymore"?, to the more usual "Nope, not seen him for ages"

Will try a few more people though

Flew with Trevor on the DC9 in BMA. He told me he had been a civil engineer ! :)

Civil engineer?

Maybe he gave it up for music and a free electric band!
