AM 'Rocky' Goodall

I see from todays UK Telegraph that Rocky died on the 18th June aged 74. I remember him as a popular 93 Entry Cranwell cadet who deservedly went on to do well in the RAF.

RIP Rocky

That's such sad news. I'd known Rocky when he was one of the pilot posters at Barnwood in the early 80s. In the following years he rather got ahead of me and arrived as the 2-star AOC of 2 Group at Rheindahlen circa 1994, till the RAF HQ shut down in 96. Such fun to be around, effective, and irrepressible - I can't believe I've outlived him.

I was his Met Man when he was AOC 2 Gp Rheindahlen. c. 1995..
He had a good line of wit at briefings, and I never knew if his references to "the Kurkish Turds" were a spoonerism or deliberate. They received rather frequent mention..

Blue skies, sir.

Not a particularly close acquaintance, but Rocky was at school (Elizabeth College, Guernsey) with me. Did very well for himself in the RAF, Air Marshall I believe. I always remember being surprised to see him being interviewed on the BBC TV news when he was commander at Bahrain during the first gulf war. Rather thought that he would become Lieutenant Governor in Guernsey, & disappointed that he didn’t. RIP, Rocky.
